I don’t know if I have a title for this.
There’s actually going to be a lot of “I don’t know” statements coming out of my blog. I’ve been writing a lot of private entries, as of late, but it doesn’t seem to make a whole lot of sense to do that at times, unless, I plan on releasing them later.
Actually, private entries seem to be good for one thing: communication between blog authors.
A blog is an interesting and flexible communication tool. It’s not just a web-based journal. It’s a multi functional communication and publication tool. At it’s a most basic level, it’s a website where you can publish whatever you want. You can even build up a network of friends and use to communicate with each other.
In some ways, it’s very much like a social networking site (there are plugins where I can turn a WordPress blog into a social network website), but I feel its focused more on long form communications rather than the short form you see in sites like Twitter or Facebook.
Social Media sites, I feel, run a danger of becoming irrelevant. There are many networks that have risen and fallen within the span of a few years, and there are some that are still around, but barely functioning, or competing in the SM market.
The advantage I feel a blog like WordPress has over something like a Social Media site, is that the user does not have to worry about their content being at the whim of an entity that is not in their control. When you have a personal blog, it’s your content and you controll every bit of it. Unless I’m banking on making money through ad revenues, which i’m not, I don’t have to worry about my content making sense or anybody happy.
These thoughts are all out of joint.
Social Media is a handy conduit for distribution.
